Piani di Montelago: a scenic hike with lunch at a mountain lodge

A hike suitable for everyone in one of the most fascinating corners of the Marche Apennines: two karst plateaus suspended at almost 1,000 metres above sea level, creating unique and surprising natural environments of great ecological interest.

We will follow a loop trail starting from the Upper Plateau, reclaimed by the Varano family in the 15th century and home to the only peat bog area in Le Marche region. We will then continue to the Lower Plateau, with its sinkholes and waterlogged meadows.

Leaving the plateaus behind, the trail first overlooks the wild, forested Scurosa Valley, before rewarding us with magnificent panoramic views from above the plateaus and the surrounding mountains.

At the end of the hike, lunch will be available at Ristoro Montelago (lunch not included; to be paid directly at the mountain lodge).

Requirements
Walking fitness and experience in natural environments are required.
Children and teenagers: yes, from 10 years old.

Dogs: Allowed on a leash.
